Allen Chapel, Schmitt Center for Religious Life
Free-will Donation; proceeds go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
Good day, RIT Orchestra friends, and RIT Community,
On March 15 the RIT Orchestra will be performing a very special concert in Allen Chapel of the Schmitt Center for Religious Life at3:00pm. Some of you may remember the wonderful violinist and RIT Orchestra alumna Svetlana Bukharina (RIT 1999-2003). Just before Christmas she tragically lost her three-year-old son Kirill. The RIT Orchestra is dedicating its first concert of the spring semester, featuring Russian and Classical music of youth, struggle, and renewal, to Kirill’s memory, and in honor of our friend Svetlana.
Mussorgsky: Prelude to Khovanshchina
L. Mozart: “Toy” Symphony
Veracini: Largo in F# minor, played by Svetlana and accompanied by Julie Ruhling
Bach: Prelude in C major for Cello
Wranitzky: La Tempesta from Symphony in D minor (modern première performance)
Stravinsky: Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird Suite (1919)
Svetlana will be joining us, along with a number of alumni from her days in the RIT Orchestra. A free-will donation will be taken for a fund set up in Kirill’s memory for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. There will be a reception in the Skalny Room following the concert, where you can talk with Svetlana and her family. We are honored to have Svetlana join us, and to be able to offer her the support of her RIT family during this time through music, which is so much a part of Svetlana’s life.
